The September 2017 Indoor Club's Newsletter

SEPTEMBER - Is the Summer Nearly Over?

We are only just past the end of August, but this summer seems to have been a bit wet and cold, now with some quite “Autumnal” mornings.

However nothing to put off out Outdoor Section who has been steaming on as usual:-

Both Pauline Clark in the Champion of Champions, and the triple of Kelly Jenkins, Debbie Seward and Pam Garden, reached Leamington once again. They both recorded one win before being stopped at the next round.

Very well done ladies for getting so far.

Roy Spencer and the Ladies Top Club had also both reached the Area Finals.

Further, we have representation in the NW Surrey Finals in the Ladies Singles and Pairs, and the Mimed Pairs and Triples AND the Thames Valley League Pairs and Triples semis. Surely more to come from that list!

Please note that our own Finals weekend is on 9th and 10th September – all support welcomed.

Mention should also be made of the Club being given the honour of hosting a neutral green late stage of the Middleton Cup, with Kent narrowly edging out Bucks in some pretty mixed weather conditions.

Indoors the Leagues have been well supported thanks to the efficiency of June Best and her team, and doubtless brought in welcome income to the Club. I trust that all participants have enjoyed the leagues and drives and that the usage of our facilities will follow the trend throughout Surrey and grow year on year.

Indoors, our Fantastic 5s team has again reached the National Q/Finals stage as we seem to do just about every year. The next hurdles will be tough of course and it would be wonderful if we could reach the National Finals, as we have done twice before, winning once, runner-up once. These are being staged all day on the 17th September, at EGHAM! So if you fancy watching some of the country’s top teams (four in the Finals), do come along and see if Egham have made it.

The following weekend the 23rd & 24th, includes the Closing Day for Outdoors AND the Indoor Recruitment weekend. It will be good to see the Club well used and the two sections coming together at that point.

Finally I must commend Nicola and her team from Eggham on Toast for their expanded service provision this summer and the quality of their menu – Friday evenings have been exceptional.

RECRUITMENT

Please if you know anybody who would be interested in Indoor or Outdoor Bowls, please give them our recruitment contact details. Our dedicated Recruitment line is 01784 473083. Please leave a message and you will be contacted to discuss your needs, or if you prefer you can e mail the club at eghambowlsclubrecruitment@gmail.com. Also you can look for Egham Bowls Club on the internet and then go to contact and all the information is there.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Please be aware that if you have introduced someone to the Bowls Club, and they have subsequently become a member, you are then entitled to a £25 gift from the club. To claim this please contact Peter Wood Membership Secretary via his pigeon hole.

LOCKERS

Do you require locker? If so, please put your requests in an envelope marked “FAO Andy Beaumont – Lockers” and place it in the left hand green post box near the desk.

There is a locker survey being carried out in the next few months, which will hopefully free up some more lockers. Can you also check that you have paid your locker fees of £4? If you know anyone who no longer uses their locker, please inform Andy, and try and get the key(s) returned so the locker can come back into circulation. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

UNWANTED BOWLS

If you have, or know anyone who has unwanted bowls we are looking for donations for the club, this helps with new members and old members who want to try a different size or weight. All donations will be gratefully received by either Glenda Dexter or June Best. Thank you.
